Visiting Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake

If you are fortunate enough to be planning a holiday to the Lake District, then you must include a visit to Keswick’s stunning Theatre by the Lake.

It is situated next to Hope Park which is lovely to walk around, and even has a crazy golf course. There is a large pay and display carpark, and you are just moments away from beautiful Derwentwater. You can walk right around the lake or go on a lake cruise which takes about 50 minutes. Rowing boats are also available for hire so you can explore the lake at your own pace.

I’d certainly recommend arriving early to allow time to explore this lovely area, especially in the summer. The viewpoint of Friar’s Crag is just a ten-minute walk from the theatre and has a stunning view down the length of the lake.

The Theatre by the Lake has a bar and cafe area with lots of delicious cakes to choose from and there are plenty of seating options both inside and out. There is also a selection of local artwork for sale if you’d like to buy something as a memento of your visit.

We saw a very entertaining performance of Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense. The acting was superb and I was completely engrossed in the performance from beginning to end. You could tell that the actors were really enjoying themselves, and despite there being only three of them acting many roles, they were very convincing and the comedic timing was excellent. It is the sort of play which appeals to all generations, so perfect for a family visit.

During the intermission, there was time to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset.

I could not have had a better time; brilliant acting, friendly and helpful staff and surrounded by some of England’s finest scenery. Thank you Theatre by the Lake for a wonderful evening, I’ll be back soon!
