Our Stay at The Spa Hotel in Saltburn
When you visit the Spa Hotel in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, the first thing you notice is the incredible view. It is in the most phenomenal location, just moments away from a beautiful beach, and surrounded by plenty of walks. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a historic town on the North Yorkshire coast and is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. There is plenty to explore, and the best thing is it is incredibly dog-friendly!
We spent Saturday night at the Spa Hotel, and we were in one of the dog-friendly rooms with Fifi. They provided a dog bed, food and water bowls, and there was a door leading out to the car-park courtyard at the back of the hotel, which was very handy for letting Fifi in and out whenever she fancied. Also, it was extremely convenient as the car was just by the door, so bringing all our things inside was very easy!
The highlights of the room were that they had Yorkshire Tea, good shower pressure and a comfy bed. The dog-friendly rooms are just the standard rooms, they do have superior rooms which are a bit more glamorous, but the main selling point of this hotel is the amazing location, and the many walks starting from the doorstep. So, really, having a comfy bed and a tasty breakfast is all you need on a dog-friendly holiday as you’ll be out most of the day exploring anyway.
There is a lovely spot in the corridor which has lots of books, board games and children’s toys, so you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained here.
We dined in the restaurant on Saturday night, they have a designated dog-friendly section which was nice, and I loved the attention to detail with the little sign they put up for us on our table. They have an excellent array of cocktails which were very reasonably priced, and I was also so pleased to see plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. We had the Mediterranean sharing board to start which was lovely, Guy and Fifi enjoyed the charcuterie whilst I had the roasted veg and goats cheese.
I was in a very cheesy mood, so had the veggie burger with cheddar & halloumi toppings! If I was in a vegan mood, I could have had the vegan patty with vegan cheese & vegan mayo – I just love that they have these options!
The next morning I fancied trying out the vegan breakfast, which was really yummy – I’d never tried scrambled tofu before, it was great! And the vegetarian black pudding was fun and just tasted like stuffing. It really is so great when businesses go above and beyond to make sure that there is something for everyone.
After our filling breakfasts, we decided to explore the Cleveland Way. It was so easy to get to; just walk down the steps to the beach, and along to the Ship Inn, then you’ll see some steps, and once you’ve walked up the steps you’ll be on the Cleveland Way! There are a few circular routes you can do around here, but we just walked along the cliffs above Saltburn looking out over the amazing view.
This is a really beautiful location, and I just wish we’d had more time to properly explore the town and the other walks. Saltburn is a 40-minute drive from Whitby which is one of our favourite places, and there are loads of other lovely seaside towns along the coast to explore too.
If you’re planning on visiting with your dog, I’d recommend visiting out of season, as from 1st May to 30th September dogs are banned on the beaches, including the beach at the bottom of the steps from the hotel. Also, because it is so beautiful, I imagine it gets really packed in the summer, so a weekend in February was actually a really good time to go.
The staff at the hotel were so friendly, attentive and welcoming, and I’d definitely love to stay again! It is also a wedding venue – if we didn’t already have our wedding booked, I’d have seriously considered having it there, the pictures would be amazing. They also do surf weekends, and if you check out their social media you’ll see they always have fun events lined up
